A Good Time for Love

by Tamara Jacobs

They say that when you’re not looking, love will find you. And they say that when it does, it will know right away. It’s a magical thought. A thought that keeps romantics alive. A thought that I very much believe is real.

What happens until this day comes however, is complicated. It’s compromise, it’s uncertainty, and it’s a lot of mistakes. Some of us make mistakes in thinking that we’ve found love with each and every person that we meet. Sure that this time he is the right one, we blind ourselves to his setbacks, and the lack of chemistry that really exists.

Some of us make mistakes in that we deny love. We tell ourselves it’s not what we’re looking for. That instead we want young, we want fun, we want simple. And what do we get? Young, fun, and very simple. So simple that its beginning, middle, and end consist of “you’re sexy, let’s do this, and thanks that was fun”. And where did that ever leave any woman with half a brain in her head?

So what do we do? Do we develop a strategy for speeding up this search? Do we flip open our laptops and make a job out of it? Do we spend more time in parks reading romantically on our own? Do we act so oblivious that we might miss a good thing?

There are no rules when it comes to love. At the end of the day, we all know what our comfort levels are. We know what we are okay with and what’s never going to happen. The most important thing is to be yourself. Because it’s true, one day love will find you and it will know right away.

Until then, have a good time, and try not to look back too often.
